We learnt all about the History of the very British tradition, Afternoon Tea and how the Royal Family have enjoyed it since the 19th Century. We talked about how the origin of the cucumber sandwich can be traced to British army officers seeking a cool and refreshing snack in tea houses to combat the heat of the Indian subcontinent. They then brought the tradition back home to Britain during the Victorian era. We found out about afternoon tea etiquette and table manners and after making our very own cucumber sandwiches we listened to some traditional music whilst enjoying them! Lots of the children hadn’t tried cucumber sandwiches before and have said they will be requesting to make more at home over the half term break! 🥒 Enjoy!
