Women's History Month assembly in the Infants

March 02, 2026

During our special assembly this morning, Mrs Lewis our History subject leader introduced Women's History Month and International Women's Day which is on 8th March. March is a time to celebrate women's achievements and women who have inspired us in the past and in the present day. This month we will celebrate female scientists, artists, authors, musicians, emergency workers, sporting stars, engineers, those who serve in the armed forces- to name just some of the many roles and careers women can now aspire to!

We started our assembly with a powerful and poignant clip about a group of women including a firefighter and RAF fighter pilot who turned around children's assumptions of gender roles. It was an important reminder that girls can do anything! We then looked at the history of International Women's Day and how in the past women had to fight for equality. We then finished with a story Girls Can Do Anything by Caryl Hart read by the England footballer Leah Williamson. The story reminds us "I am a Girl, I am Fantastic, I'm Strong, Brave and Proud!"
