The Kingfishers are Artists

January 21, 2026

This half term, we have been focusing on the artist Maurice Sendak. We learned that he was an American author and illustrator, best known for his children’s book Where the Wild Things Are. We explored and discussed Sendak’s artwork, sharing our thoughts about what we liked and noticed. For our final piece, we created a 3D sculpture inspired by the Wild Things’ hair. We used bright colours and sculpted paper in different ways, including folding, bending, zigzagging and rolling. We have really enjoyed learning about Maurice Sendak and his work.
