This week the Sparrows began their Phonics journey learning the first two sounds of the week 's' and 'a'. They were introduced to the vocabulary segmenting and blending and encouraged to use their robot arms to segment (break down the sounds) and clap to blend (put the sounds together to make a word). They thought about different words beginning with those sounds and also named the children in the class who had names with these sounds.
Finally, they began using our new whiteboard pencils and their whiteboards to form the letters. They worked hard on the correct pencil grip and forming both letters correctly. Their resilience was very impressive and everyone was willing to have a go! Well done Sparrows, two more sounds will be waiting for you this week!
