Miss Holden kicked off our Music of the Half Term assemblies this morning by exploring the inspiring lives and sounds of four legendary Black musicians ahead of Black History Month in October!
The children learned about the lives and instruments of Winifred Atwell, Stevie Wonder, Billy Ocean, and Sade. We discussed how Winifred Atwell made history as the very first Black artist to have a UK number-one hit with her famous upright piano, and how Stevie Wonder writes and plays incredible music by ear.
We also talked about how artists like Billy Ocean and Sade use their smooth vocals and catchy rhythms to create completely different moods, from high-energy dance tracks to calm, peaceful songs.
It was a brilliant start to our musical journey this term.
