Water Play and Shady fun in EYFS 🌊

June 23, 2026

With the weather forecast to be sunny and hot this week, we planned for lots of calm afternoon activities that could happen in the shade, alongside lots of water play to keep the children cool.

Over the last 2 days the children have had their very own car wash, using brushes, sponges, cloths, bowls of soapy water and spray bottles to clean all of the bikes, scooters and cars in the playground rather than scooting round on them.

They have also been making their own bird feeders using pipe cleaners and cheerios and hanging them on the railings. Some children have decided to make their own buzzy bees with potato mashers, yellow and black paint and some stickers for the eyes.

Our water tray has been set up enabling children to do lots of pouring and scooping as well as observing the different flows of water from each part.

Finally there were Maths activities set up using Number block stickers to create number sentences and a 5 frame drawn on the playground where children could add different coloured cones to aid their composition to 5.

Our ice cream parlour remains a firm favourite in the EYFS playground and we sure wished they were real ice creams in that heat today! We are super proud of the Reception children for following the rules carefully to ensure safety in the sun!
