This week the children have enjoyed sharing the story 'What the ladybird heard' by Julia Donaldson. The story is set on a farm with lots of noisy animals, but a ladybird who never says a word, until Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh discuss their cunning plan to steal the fine prize cow. In order to save the day, the ladybird shares the thieves cunning plan with the rest of the farmyard animals. From here they make their own funny yet clever plan to trick the evil villians.
At the beginning of the week the children in the Wrens, enjoyed creating a visual story trail to recount the key events from the story. From here they were then able to write their own recounts independently. Using their segmenting and blending skills to build words and short sentences. We were very impressed to see the children include some of our new phonics knowledge of alternative graphemes too!
