In Music this half term we will be exploring Music from around the world. This week we discussed the African-American festival of Kwanzaa, which means 'the first harvest'. We linked this to last half term's PSHE focus 'Celebrating Difference', as the children shared their own family traditions and celebrations, such as Christmas, Diwali and Eid.
We listened to a song called 'Toom-Bah-Ee-Lero' to practise call and response using our voices as instruments. We then watched an African drumming performance and explored call and response using body percussion and instruments.
The children loved having the opportunity to play on the drums and used key musical terminology, such as tempo, volume and pitch, when offering feedback on their peers' performances.
Next week we look forward to exploring Latin American music.
